Top Five 2019 Holiday Season Movie Releases

The holidays will soon be here. Although the time away from work and school is much appreciated, parents and kids may find they become bored staying at home and need some outside entertainment. When this is the case, heading to the movies is always a good idea. With many new films set to be released during the months of November and December, families can see a new movie every day and have a great time while doing so. Best of all, movie tickets make great gifts, as they allow the recipient to have an experience rather than bringing another item into the home. Be sure and check the movie showtimes at your local theater. What is the top five 2019 holiday movie releases that everyone should consider seeing?

Frozen 2

The cast of the original movie will return to the movie theater in the sequel to the popular kids’ movie Frozen. Kristoff, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and Sven go on a journey to learn how Elsa obtained her powers, and this trip takes them to an enchanted land. Kids will be eager to see this movie, while parents go simply to see if it is as good as the original. If it follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, parents will be hearing songs from the film for months to come. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez collaborated on songs for this film just as they did on the first. In fact, this movie is so eagerly anticipated that more than 116 million people watched the movie trailer within 24 hours of its release back in February 2019. Furthermore, parents and kids want to know more about the two new characters that are supposed to be introduced in this film. Who knows? They may have their own movie at some point in the future.

Arctic Dogs

Swifty is an arctic fox who dreams of serving as a sled dog. He works in the Arctic Blast Delivery Service mailroom but wants to take the Top Dog spot, as this position is reserved for the star husky courier. To achieve this goal, he takes a sled and delivers a package without permission. During this journey, he encounters an evil genius known as Doc Walrus who is trying to melt the Arctic. Doc Walrus has a band of puffin henchmen to help him achieve his goal, and Swifty must bring his friends together to stop the villain’s plot and save the world. Kids and parents alike are sure to fall in love with Swifty and his gang of misfit friends. Numerous stars came together to provide the voices for this film, including Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, James Franco, and John Cleese.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Men, women, and children love the Star Wars film series and the latest installment is sure to be another hit. In fact, some families may even rearrange their entire schedule to head over to cineplex and take in this film. Moviegoers may want to see if they can purchase tickets early because they are sure to sell out. One thing many people wish to see when this film is released is Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd who will have a role in this film. In addition, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver also have roles in this production. The Resistance and First Order will face off once again, and this time the ancient conflict between the Sith and the Jedi ends once and for all. This is the third and final installment of the sequel Star Wars trilogy as well as the ninth and final episode of the Skywalker series or, so moviegoers have been told.

Spies in Disguise

If you love Will Smith movies, this one is sure to be a hit. Smith plays a super spy who teams up with a scientist played by Tom Holland. Smith, in the role of Lance Sterling, accidentally ingests an experimental substance created by Holland’s character Walter Beckett. As a result, he turns into a pigeon and must determine how to save the world while in the form of a bird. This film was inspired by Lucas Martell’s animated short film: Pigeon: Impossible. Smith is known for his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as well as in movies such as Bad Boys. Tom Holland is best known for playing Spider-Man in several Marvel films, and the pair is sure to delight in this movie as they have in their other productions. This movie is set to be released on Christmas Day and has not yet been rated. However, parents should keep an eye out for the rating to determine if it is appropriate for their children.

Clemency

Once the holiday rush is over and there is a lull, head to the theater to see Clemency. This movie tells the story of a prison warden who is struggling with her job following execution in her facility. The stress of the job is negatively impacting every area of her life and it shows throughout the film. Furthermore, the prisoner is fighting for his freedom and requesting exoneration and she must face this also. People will likely leave this film debating the wisdom of executions, as the movie does a good job of depicting both sides. This film took home the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival this year and stars Alfre Woodard. Others in the cast include Wendell Pierce, Richard Schiff, and Dennis Haskins.

Numerous other films are set to release during the holiday season. Be sure to set some time aside to see a great movie with family or friends. There is no better way to relax and unwind while enjoying the company of others. People who take the time to see one or more of these films will have much to talk about once work and school start back up once again and will be interested to see what others think of the films seen. Not only that, but a person may discover they have a new favorite film or a few once these productions have been viewed.
